Africana Homestead Legacy Publishers proudly sponsors literary contests for emerging poets and writers in the United States of America and its territories.

Call for 2007 entries

The Publisher and editors of Africana Homestead Legacy Publishers (AHLP) announce their call for entries for the 2007 Africana Homestead Short Story Contest and 2007 Africana Homestead Poetry Contest.

The contests are open to residents of all 50 States and the territories of the United States of America. Scroll down and follow the links to download the contest rules, entry form, and writing template.

What's new for 2007?

  • Entrants must submit entries postmarked by March 31, 2008
  • No entry fees for children and youth

    Visions of Black Life is a 6 inch by 9 inch book. The template shows the dimensions of the text block to help poets determine the maximum length of a line of verse and short fiction writers the ideal length of their paragraphs.
  • "Overview of Poetry July 2006"
    This educational article discusses the nature of poetry and the structure, styles, and other literary techniques that poets may use when writing verse. This material will help you prepare entries for our contests.
